I think I may have a virus on my macbook. Is there a safe and free program to check and clean it?

The only reason I think something is wrong. My computer restarts on me. first it freezes a couple times. then reboots.

That is not a sign of malware, more like incompatibilities between hard and software (wrong driver, bad OS X version for your MacBook, ...) or even a hardware fault.
