Apple today released a new Vision Pro app for the iPhone, which is installed automatically for Vision Pro owners who upgrade to iOS 18.4 beta 2, the latest beta that also came out for developers this morning.

The app was announced two weeks ago, and it is designed to make it easier to find and download content to the Vision Pro when the headset is not in use.

There is a "My Vision Pro" section that has information like serial number and visionOS version, along with a user guide and tips for using the Vision Pro.

The app is straightforward and the main section is a "This Week" experience where you can scroll through different content options for the Vision Pro. There are dedicated sections for Apple Immersive content, new apps and games for the week, 3D movie suggestions, and feature highlights like the Mac Virtual Display. You can download apps and games to your Vision Pro using the app, plus add movies and TV shows to your watch list.

So is the app being forced onto your phone even if you don't have (and don't intend to buy/mortgage your house for) a Vision Pro?

Tell us you didn't read the article without telling us.

From the article: "...which is installed automatically for Vision Pro owners who upgrade to iOS 18.4 beta 2, the latest beta that also came out for developers this morning."

Sounds like that would be a no, it's not being forced onto your phone if you don't have an AVP.

1. This is BETA software so NO ONE is being forced to download anything.
2 The software will only download IF you have a Vision Pro headset paired to that particular iPhone - again NOT being forced on you in any way.
3. Again to be clear NO ONE is forcing you or anyone else to download or use this app, nor are you being forced to buy an Apple Vision Pro or any other product.
4 I would very much like to know where you can buy / mortgage a house for $3499, please tell us!

I want it on iPad even if I don't have a Vision Pro !! (I still can use simulator haha)

This sounds like something that's going to be pretty useful, so I don't want the following to sound like I'm complaining. I'm just sharing it as an observation.

It's interesting that in a way this makes the Vision Pro seem like a device that needs assistance from another device rather than a product that can easily stand alone. That is, it's similar to how the Apple Watch has a companion app on the iPhone, and how in the early days of the iPhone, it synced with a Mac.

All this is probably appropriate given it's still very early days, and this sort of "assistance from another Apple device" can go away down the road once there's less of a need for it. It took a number of iPhone generations and the creation of iCloud before iPhone dropped its reliance on syncing with a Mac.

They did the same thing with the watch app. The app loaded onto my phone even though I didn't have an apple watch. Just threw it in a junk folder, and kept it there till I did end up getting a watch. I'll delete this vision app when it gets loaded on my phone and forget about it.

I see it more as the ecosystem expanding. If I’m waiting at the doctor’s office it would be entertaining to check out new content available for Vision Pro, at least to me. From what I’ve read, this app is completely optional. The Vision Pro doesn’t need it at all.

Agree with this as well. I see it the same as the Meta Horizon app for Quest or the Steam app for Steam. Nothing wrong with having more ways to interact with your devices while you are away.

Often I hear about an app while I'm out and want to add it to my wish list (Steam) or trigger a remote download and I can just do it with these apps. I don't have to worry about remembering to do it later.

This app adds that functionality to Apple Vision Pro.

Thanks! Loving these updates. You can tell Apple is laying the groundwork.

i think he was being sarcastic. I’m sure most of us look for every opportunity to wear our AVPs.
We can do many other things while downloading movies in the background.
I was wondering if that was the case. I guess that makes sense.
