I think it's pretty deliberate they didn't name this release of the product "Apple Vision".

The $3600 price point and "Pro" moniker seem like they're leaving space in the market below this device for future expansion. I could see a world in which there's Apple Vision, Apple Vision Air, Apple Vision Pro at various price points and differentiators (perhaps battery pack size, compute capability?)

I'm curious to know your thoughts on the topic.

Hopefully. A headset with a much cheaper price tag is required for it's wide adoption. But that will be atleast a few years away.

With the Vision Pro launching early next year in the US and later on in other countries, it may be 2026 by the time a cheaper one launches.

The UI is clearly designed to also work with a cheaper Vision model without immersive XR passthrough. It would be a much less bulky, clear lens type AR (glasses) with the eye tracking and downwards cameras only.

This allows the device to do away with:
- The external display
- The darkness shield
- The two front cameras
- The LiDAR Sensor
- The side cameras
- The bulky lens setup

The power consumption would be minimal without two high and two lower resolution cameras running all the time and the hefty processing that is constantly generating 2x 4.5k streams of heavily processed real-time video.

It wouldn't need an M2, and an A17 would be more than enough. This would enable the Vision model to be much cheaper, run most of the same apps and have a built in battery with decent battery life.

The release cycles can eventually add cellular and a TrueDepth camera and eventually it might be a suitable alternative to an iPhone, iPad or Mac for some people.

An non-immersive Vision could be launched in late 2024 alongside iPads or iPhones, or in late 2025 alongside the Vision Pro update.
