Between Heaven and Hell
Hi guys

I am hopefully going to visit Minneapolis in a fortnight for some sort of a business, and was just wondering what "a must go to" places you advise me to visit. I will be there for about 5-7 days, may extend it to 9 days, if you think it is worth it.

Thanks in advance

( It would be really helpful if you can put them in order ;))

Weisman Art Museum, University of Minnesota across the river from downtown (free)
Guthrie Theater (if you can get tickets to a show)
Target Field (if you like baseball)
there's a sculpture garden near downtown
Basilica in St. Paul, limited hours
State Capitol in St. Paul
Mall of America (in Bloomington)

and you can find more links...

The Xcel Energy Center was ranked the #1 best Professional hockey arena in the nation.

Target Field is brand new, and is fabulous.

Various art museums.

Visit Matt's Bar and the 5-8 club and decide for yourself!

I looked into the suggestions and they all look very interesting, thanks guys, however i have 2 questions if it is OK

1) i will be living in a hotel near the Minneapolis Convention Center as my work will be around there. So, do you think renting a car will be more convenient to visit these places (e.g Mall of America, St. Paul, the Lakes)? or do you think public transport is a better choice? (Note: i drove all around the world but never in America)

2) in Most days out of the 5-6 days i will be getting half the day off, either morning or afternoon, do you think that will be enough to visit what you mentioned or do u advise me to get a 2 extra days (these will be taken from my annual leave/Holiday)?

Thanks again

What little I know of public transportation in M-SP has left a positive impression. There are street-car-like trains and buses.

Public transit will be reasonable for you to get where you need to be. Light rail service runs from downtown Minneapolis to the Mall of America, and the airport is on the light rail line as well. Otherwise, bus transit is plentiful and will be convenient to the Convention Center area as well as many of the local sights.

No need for a car then. Thanks Toppa

Another good place to go is Rock Bottom Brewery (downtown off 8th and Nicolet IIRC?) for great microbrews made right there at the restaurant and god food

Makes you smart or powerful?? ;)
Rock Bottom is a small chain. We've got one here also. Good recommendation.

What are your interests?

In terms of food, here are some restaurants not to miss: Solera and 112 Eatery. They're both within walking distance. They're both open late. They're not fast food.

Recreation, Lakes and Parks: Lake of the Isles, Lake Calhoun, Mississippi River (from downtown Minneapolis to downtown Saint Paul).

Arts: The Guthrie Theater (even if you don't see a performance you should go); the MIA; the Walker Art Center.

I live here and suggest you rent a car or better yet a bicycle.

Cheers!

Guthrie

+1 on renting a bicycle.

Use it to ride the greenway to Lake Calhoun and Lake of the Isles (beautiful!)

Then use it to ride over to the Mill District and check out the stone arch bridge and mill city. Then walk around the Guthrie and walk on the infinity bridge. Then go to Chino Latino for a huge meal and some huge drinks and enjoy some time in Uptown.

Man I love where I live!
