That there big London
I want to buy Adobe CS3 Design Standard, but living in the UK, I cannot afford Adobe's ridiculous "Brit Tax".

But, shortly I'm off for a week in Las Vegas, so I want to buy it there and save some money.

I also want to keep everything legal and above board - but it's hard to find information on what the various tax and duty implications are. Can someone "in the know" please clarify?

I understand that...
  • There is no VAT in the USA
  • There is no state sales tax in Nevada
  • There is 7.5% sales tax for Clark County
  • I will have to pay 17.5% VAT when I declare at UK customs

I have also been told that there is zero UK import duty on computer software, but I can't confirm this.

Does anyone know if, as a tourist, I can claim back the 7.5% Clark County sales tax?
Will a copy of CS3 bought in the states work on a UK-bought MBP?
Are my other assumptions and statements right?

I reckon I'll be making a saving of at least £240 (US$481).

Cheers
SL

If you are willing to take a risk . . . What you could do is buy CS3 in LV and dump the box and take home only the CD and Manuals. This way you could avoid paying the taxes. Keep in mind if you are caught it will be a very large fine.
