Vivaldi has released version 7.4 of its iOS browser, introducing background audio playback that lets users continue streaming music, podcasts, and videos even when switching apps or locking their screen.

We've tested the feature, and it works seamlessly with YouTube and other streaming services, eliminating interruptions during multitasking. Combined with a new setting that prevents links from automatically opening external apps, users can stay within Vivaldi while consuming media content.

Tab management upgrades include the addition of pinning and stacking capabilities. Users can pin frequently accessed sites like email or news feeds to the left side of the tab bar for quick access, while tab stacking allows grouping related sites together, with customizable names and colors to differentiate between stacks.

Elsewhere, the browser's history controls have been refined with new settings for search and typed history in the address bar. Users can now choose how much browsing data the browser remembers, offering either suggestion-based browsing or a fresh start.

There are also visual improvements including a redesigned tab bar featuring "floating tabs" inspired by Vivaldi's desktop version. Vivaldi says the cleaner design aims to make it easier to distinguish between open tabs while giving the browser a more modern appearance.

Vivaldi has an employee-owned structure without external investors, and sees itself as a privacy-focused alternative that prioritizes user experience over data collection. Vivaldi 7.4 is available now through the App Store for iPhone and iPad users. [Direct Link]

Downloaded it and surfed here in the app - can be good to have another browser at time.
It feeel simple, clean and very good.
I lost intetest in Firefox, but I forgot why - so I welcome a new 2nd browser.

I'd be surprised if Alphabet allowed that but I'll try too.
Not sure why Apple doesn't want to unlock multitasking features that computers have been providing forever.
Brave browser has had it for a while, and Google hasn't blocked it. I consume all of my YT videos in Brave because of this, the PiP, and the fact that they play add free, which I believe are all paid features.

Vivaldi makes YouTube usable with its PiP and ad blocking features. It’s awesome for that. Only thing I don’t like is the jerky scrolling. Oh and also the way it sometimes deletes all my tabs after an update. (This one was fine though.)

I use multiple browsers on my iPhone for different purposes. DuckDuckGo is my default, as it has the handy Burn feature. No need to dance between Private/Incognito tabs and non-private. One tap and everything goes Poof!

Backgrounds playback of YouTube sounds pretty good. Need to test soon. 🙂
Works in safari do this:
Play video
Lock screen
Unlock screen
Hit play again in youtube
Lock screen
Now the ios control should be you tube …
Hit play on the ios control either on lock screen or control centre
Lock screen.

Safari has the Private Relay. Without it (or a VPN) no other browser can offer good privacy.

I decided to only use Vivaldi only for MacRumors on my iPad mini 2022 - there you go 👍🏻
Way better than Firefox and other options.

I have far too many tabs opened in Safari on the mini.
Things to check up, keep track on etc. gets an open attached tab. Bookmarks in general are for less urgent or not very close in time.
On Macs tab groups are wonderful - maybe will use it more on iPad when or if I buy a new Air or when new mini 8 arrives. The 6 is not so speedy anymore, but serves its purpose just fine for now.

Used it everyday for a few days, like all of this solution it still feels like it's heavily fighting against Youtube.
It usually wins but it hesitates for half a second and sometimes it just stops playing. Not a smooth experience.
