I have a mid 2012 13" MBP running Yosemite and I picked up a used Vizio M220MV 21.5" TV to use as a work display. My bench is pretty deep and the plan was to have the display on the wall and store the MBP under the bench closed using a keyboard and trackpad while I work to keep my work bench clean. I picked up a mini display to HDMI cable of Amazon and I've spent over an hour trying to get the display to work. The HDMI ports work as I watched a DVD yesterday thru HDMI, but I kept getting "Invalid Signal" when I tried the laptop thru it. Finally I was able to make it work by changing the resolution to Scaled 1080i or 720p, but not 1080p and when I try to close my laptop the screen goes blue again, I'm pretty sure it switches back to 1080p. According to the specs I've found on the display it is 1080p. I was really hoping to use this to watch Netflix too, but when I connect it using VGA it says it's not HDCP compatible, though Netflix works thru HDMI. Ultimately I want to get a thunderbolt dock, but I can't afford it right now. What can I do?
