VLC is finally released at version 1.0. Until quicktime comes out in snow leopard. This app shall run my entire computer :)

* Free, Open Source and cross-platform
* Independant of systems codecs to support most video types
* Live recording
* Instant pausing and Frame-by-Frame support
* Finer speed controls
* New HD codecs (AES3, Dolby Digital Plus, TrueHD, Blu-Ray Linear PCM, Real Video 3.0 and 4.0, ...)
* New formats (Raw Dirac, M2TS, ...) and major improvements in many formats...
* New Dirac encoder and MP3 fixed-point encoder
* Video scaling in fullscreen

* RTSP Trickplay support
* Zipped file playback
* Customizable toolbars
* Easier encoding GUI in Qt interface
* Better integration in Gtk environments
* MTP devices on linux
* AirTunes streaming
* New skin for the skins2 interface

Now that it has RealVideo support too, it's really the ultimate video player.

It doesn't update from previous versions

"This app shall run my entire computer"

Is it? Cause when you use preview, iMovie, iTunes or front row you do use quicktime.

I like VLC, but I use quicktime because it's more integrated. And I really like it to use the j k and l button to play through the move, something VLC doesn't offer.

I decided to dump my old preference files for a 1.0 release and have spent all morning trying to get everything back to where it's supposed to be.

It's okay, but I think I'm experiencing a lot more instability that I should be, considering I started out with a stock install.

A lot of the new features are nice.

QT interface....not getting within a foot of my computer I don't need no QT (BTW I run linux I'm more of a gtk kinda guy)

It's Leopard only. Hope it'll solve some of the bugs VLC were having lately, mainly with music and streamed video.

You should do some reading on the video codecs before making false, uneducated assumptions. Article:

Edit: Haha skim fail. Doh!

Huh? QT vs GTK has nothing to do with codecs. Although it is news to me that VLC uses a QT interface on Mac OS X. Maybe it does on Linux, though.

I'm downloading it now. :D

I was getting some bugs with VLC 0.9.9a when watching movies, when it would video and audio would jump at random times, about 1 second forward. Really annoying when watching That 70s Show for example, missing the punchline of a joke, and just hearing the audience laugh. :mad:

Hope 1.0 fixes this. :)

Edit: Nope! :mad:

Thanks for the heads up!

I hope the odd movie playback stutter (at times, not very often) is fixed.
Also, wasn't VLC going for a new logo for Version 1.0 release?! :eek:

Is this happening for you on other media players for the same file as well?

Still happens with VLC 1.0, at least with files streamed over gigabit ethernet. PLEX works fine for me though, except you can't just drop a file to open with Plex.

Strange thing is that vlc used to be ok.

Perhaps the Intel version of VLC 1.0 is better but the PPC version has bad playback problems / stuttering / video pausing. I played the same video with QT & Perian - Flawless.

VLC ain't what it used to be. :(
