I have my Mac Mini (10.6.8) plugged into my TV with HDMI mainly for media purposes, and if I wanted to work on it, I'd VLC into it from my Windows computer. What I've found is that it keeps screwing with my dock (and sometimes minor wallpaper issues). Like I'd have my dock set to NOT hide, but every once in a while I'd notice that the dock would start hiding itself again. I'd have to go into the dock control panel and uncheck the option again. Sometimes the wallpaper would default to a default wallpaper rather than something from my iphoto, but that would fix itself usually, so it didn't annoy me.
I finally thought it might be the VLC because of another issue (sometimes the "screen" resolution would change to something smaller and I'd have to change the res back), so I started avoiding using VLC to see if the issues would continue, and they haven't.
Is there any known issue with VLC doing this kind of wackiness and is there any good workaround? Ideally I'd like to keep using VLC for those times I need to do work on the mac.
