VLC 2.0-RC1 for Mac

Tried three versions, all except the PPC one, and all crashed while opening (never saw anything VLC related, only the jumping of the VLC icon in the Dock) on my 2009 C2D MBP with 10.6.8.
The 32-bit version kept jumping though and made "syslogd" and "launchd" use all available CPU cycles.
Now tried the PPC version, and oddly enough, it started, but after adding an .avi file and pressing PLAY, it started "building a font cache", which I only have seen with MSPlayer or so.
As I use Movist most of the time anyway, I can wait.
