VLC airplay blacks out MBP screen during playback

There must something I'm missing. I pull up VLC on my TV through airplay, go to full screen, and it blacks out my main screen. I went to the fullscreen video setting and set it to monitor 2, but still when going full screen, it blacks out the MBP screen.

I want to watch videos on the TV while still using the computer. :eek:
