VLC cutting out

i'm a total mac noob so please try to bear with me. i've been trying to use VLC 1.0.2 to watch video clips (most recently .wmv) and it plays for a few seconds, cuts to black screen, then closes the video window. do you know why its doing this and how i can fix it?
 
Why don't you try a newer version of VLC Player, like the current one (1.1.7)?
.wmv files play fine for me in VLC, though scrubbing through them is not as easy.
Have you tried Flip4Mac for QuickTime Player yet?
 
flip4mac fixed it. thanks! i'm so new to macs i didn't really know what to do. i was sure it was an easy fix if i asked the right person.
