Is there any way to set VLC as my default video player? I don't want to have to select an .avi .wmv .mpg etc... and have to do the whole open with for all of them. Is there anyway to just make it default over quicktime?

Thanks

You could always try uninstalling Quicktime, but that'd be an extreme. But frankly, by the time someone gives you an answer here, you could set all of the files types manually. It's not that hard or time consuming.

Seriously, you could have reset all the file types while waiting for the answer. 'Command-I' is your friend. And not so difficult to undo on an individual filetype basis. I am personally happy to go with a simple reformat of any given file-type and leave the rest alone.

its really more the principal than my laziness... you should be able to set the default through vlc... plus im lazy hehe

oh, and can't remove quicktime, i think that will mess with itunes

The short answer is that you can't. The long answer is that you can't, unless you tickle with system files. And that is NOT recommended.

And never, ever delete the basic applications that came preinstallled with OS X (like Quicktime, Safari, etc).

Damn. I uninstalled iCal, iChat, iSync, Mail, Address Book, and maybe one more and haven't had any problems.

I wouldn't have uninstalled iCal, iSync, or Address Book, but I agree, alot of the basic programs are useless... and replaceable
