So another mundane stupid problem. i have os 10.4 on my G3, and when i go to open a mp4, and avi, any video file, it doesnt open a window after a few seconds it quits. i have no idea what is wrong, and i would appreciat answers that dont make me look like a moron. amazingly enough ive been doing this for 10 years. thank you.

Perhaps try to clear VLC preferences? Look in your user preferences folder in your home folder. There should be a VLC folder in there.

The only system I have running Tiger is a G4 and I have less problems with VLC on it, than with v.1.05 running on Snow Leopard.

OK so i tried deleting the preferences. didn't work.
I installed vlc 9.2, and its a bit improved, i don't get a video window, but it doesn't suddenly quit. i also tried deleting the preferences for it, but i didn't do anything.

Try Movist.

IMO, better than VLC. I used VLC for 3+ years, and was always a solid fan. Little things nagged me, but I got used to the program's little quirks.

Movist, though still in development, feels like a grown up VLC.
