You scare me. You are right.

It is THE player.
If my Mac cannot play some media file in QuickTime (trashing all WMV files) I use VLC.
If my PC cannot... etc. the same. VLC all the way.

But my PC VLC does support 5.1 using my Audigy 2 soundcard.
Now, my Mac uses the optical output .... I wish VLC could use this sound option for its Dolby 5.1

Definitely money worth.
I would pay for an G5 Optical Dobly 5.1 supported VLC. You bet ya.

Looks like they've made the goal. Great! Not surprising considering Avosmac Magazine made a €500 donation. There are still reasons to make donations, just make sure you say it's intended for Mac support and testing.

Update: We believe we can now afford the the G5, but we need to do a full count, since we received so many donations. Thanks everyone for your help. Please don't stop! We needed the G5 quite bad, but there is still lot's of other stuff we can use. iSight camera, video and TV cards, all kinds of stuff we would like to support and test in the future. And when all that is done, then we can always reinvest in Mac Intel hardware, ADC costs, conference attendence, server upgrades, etc. etc. etc.

On a related note, I need money for a G5, so I can potentially learn something about software engineering and perhaps someday maybe design a program approximately as useful as vlc.

Anybody want to help? As you can see, the cause is VERY worthy. :D

Meh, I'm going to skip all the "worthy cause" baloney and ask people to send me money. Just because. It doesn't matter that I already have a G5. Think about it: all you're going to do with that money is spend it on stuff. I, on the other hand, will spend it on OTHER stuff. See? Now give. Thanks.

Enough to buy one of the holes in the grid of the front of a G5.
But, hey! everything counts! :D

or.. errr.... some other currency..??

Hey now, as PMG5's start at Rs. 98,500, Lacero and approximately 1,970 like minded people could put someone in the big leagues.

Although...I'm not sure the world is yet ready for 2000 people who are like-minded to Lacero. ;) :D
