I'm trying to figure out how to extract a portion of video from a longer video file in VLC Player but can't seem to get it to work. I know I've done it before but it's been a long time. Can anyone help or direct me to a site that can? Thanks.

What format?

Well the original video is mp4 and 720p so if I can keep that it would be good. But no matter what type of format I try to put it in it doesn't work. A file may show up at the end but I can't open it cause it's an "invalid" file type.

Use MP4Tools. It will let you extract a clip of defined start/end without re-encoding.
