OS X does not have a decent terminal emulator that can compete with the functionality of SecureCRT on Windows.
My primary use of SecureCRT is serial-based network device management. I have a MacBook Pro that does not have a serial port, but I've successfully used a USB to Serial Adapter in Boot Camp.
My question is: will the Virtual Machine be able to detect the USB to Serial Adapter and use it if the host operating system doesn't know it exists? I have experience with VMWare in the Windows world, and it uses a hardware absraction layer that essentially hooks into the OS - meaning if the OS isn't aware/have drivers for a device then any guest operating system running in VMware can not access it either.
As I use SecureCRT both professionally and personally, I can justify the cost of VMWare Fusion and XP Professional to have it in OS X - but I am curious as to whether or not this is even possible.
Anyone have experience here?
