VMWare: Adding existing hard disk

I already have an existing VMWare machine setup.

I would like to add an existing hard disk to my virtual machine.

When I add a hard disk and type the name of a existing hard disk, VMWare states the name already exist and cannot connect to the hard disk.

How do I add existing hard disk in VMWare?
