VMWare and Windows Activiation

I'm sure someone knows how to fix this...

Every time I've used boot camp, and then gone back to VMWare, I have to re-enter the Windows activation key. I think I read somewhere that you are meant to install VMWare Tools at a certain time to stop this happening.
Can anyone help?

I do believe it is recommended to install VMware Tools before doing activation of any kind. So the sequence of events would be:

1. Install Windows XP in BootCamp.
2. Reboot into OS X, load Windows XP bootcamp partition in VMware.
3. Install VMware tools.
4. Reboot the Windows XP bootcam partition in VMware
5. Activate Windows

At this point you shouldn't have to activate when switching back and forth.
