I am considering using VMware fusion to use windows vista (short rant - it is stupid that to access a hospital VPN to look at X-rays from home you need one of windows 98/XP/Vista still in this day and age)

Anyway I had parallels 6 in past (which no longer works since I'm on ML) - I can upgrade to VM fusion regular and pro edition for same price (parallels user switch discount).

For personal office use does it make a difference which version I get? Will the pro edition use up more resources?

I run the pro edition, and since I've not used the 'regular' version I can't do a comparison.

Perhaps consider a free alternative in VirtualBox? While I've not used VirtualBox on my Mac, I have used it on Windows in the past. For basic windows functionality it's more than sufficient.
