VODAFONE LAUNCH SERVICE TO RIVAL IPHONE
"Having lost out on rival network 02 to be the iPhone's UK network provider, Vodafone is going head-to-head with Apple this Christmas with the launch of a competing mobile music service, the Guardian reports. Offering unlimited access to more than one million tracks, Vodafone's MusicStation will cost customers £1.99 a week, with many existing customers being able to access it from their current handsets. "We hope to do for the mobile market what BlackBerry did for email," says Rob Lewis, Chief Executive of Omnifone, which developed MusicStation. And with Nokia's announcement last month that it also plans to launch its own music service selling tracks for 79p each, as well as news from America that Apple has sold it's one millionth iPhone, the battle of the music providers is hotting up in the run-up to Christmas."
