I have tried using voice command about a hundred times, and not once has it ever worked

Is there any way to train it?
Has anyone else had this?

I have checked that I have all the setting re language and region set up, I do not have a strong accent.....

Any help much appreciated

Voice command has worked wonderfully for me. Its gets everything correct except for the word 'Home'. I had to change that to Me Casa. Are you talking about voice dial or using the music functions?

Mine works 95% of the time. Are you saying the correct commands? For iPod you have to say something like play albums by artist, not play artist and for phone you have to say call home or dial then a number.

It's one of my favorite things on the iPhone! I use it all the time at work to play playlists by name and make calls when my hands are wet or something. I've rarely had it not understand me.

Works really well for me too. There are a couple of artists or bands who have names that it couldn't understand the way I said it, but I just played one of the songs, asked what song it was so I could hear how it was pronouncing it, and went from there.

The commands are specific, and you have to enunciate clearly. Those are the only two things that make a difference. There's a sticky at the top of this sub-forum that gives every command.

It works pretty well but I would like to see them add a couple of more things like:

Opening an application
Opening a website
Texting someone with your voice (a lot of states are implementing laws about texting while driving.

I'm still convinced the reason people are having issues is that they aren't using it properly. Look up the table of command options so that you know what you need to say to get it to work, and then realize that you are going to have to go out of your way to over enunciate and say each word individually.

The only time it has not worked for me is when I was using the wrong command.

Um, no. I said "Play Tom Sawyer" and my phone decided to "Dial Kaitlyn Maier." I said "Play Rush" and it said "no matches." My wife said the same thing, and it worked fine.

You're supposed to say "Play Artist Rush" or "Play Album Rush" or "Play Playlist Rush", not just "Play Rush"

Yes, but it understands "play rush." And when it's not sure, it lists choices. Again, works fine when my wife talks to it. Never once gets anything right when I talk to it. I say "Dial <numbers>" and it gets that wrong, too.

Thank You! That is what I was doing wrong. I was saying play artist instead of saying play songs or albums by the artist.

Actually, as others have pointed out, I believe you just proved my point.

iPhone How To said:
Play an album, artist, or playlist:
Say “play,” then say “album,” “artist,” or “playlist” and the name.

I just tried "play artist rush." Still didn't work. Tried it four times. My wife is laughing hysterically at me. Still works fine for her.

I then tried "dial 1 8 0 0" and it came back with "no songs are currently playing."

It absolutely refuses to do anything I tell it.

Try "play songs by Rush" or "play albums by Rush"

Your phone must be female. because we girls never take orders from guys

Honestly, have you tried mimicking your wife how she speaks to the phone? If she is getting it to work I bet she is fully enunciating and going slowly. You can't talk to it like a person, you've got to talk to it like a machine.

I am not a bloody Geordie
I simply work here.....
I am actually a Shandy drinking Southern Fairy
