Voice Note Bugs

Is anyone else having a horrible time with voice notes in iMessage? Firstly it makes not sense to me why there are two dictation buttons on the same screen - one of which has replaced the previously useful voice note button.

More importantly I regularly find voice notes don't start recording even when the record button activates, then you press stop and it offers to "play back" what you recorded but of course there's nothing there, and the only way to resolve it is to force quit the whole app.

It's also frustrating trying to get received voice notes to play back. I don't understand how apple has messed this up so badly when so many other apps get it right.

I've been reporting it through the feedback app ever since the first iOS 16 PB but they never come back to me for more information

I never use this feature, but I agree it doesn't make sense why the replaced the audio message option with the dictation button when there's already a dictation button (and a much larger, easier-to-press one) at the bottom right of the screen. However, apparently I'm even worse off than you are, because when I click the audio message icon (which is now in the row of apps above the keyboard), I get this:

So I can't even test it for you. I have no idea why it's saying that.
