iPod voice recorders

i need one for large lecture halls. the student usually sits towards the front. what's the best option? is it better to buy a standalone or an ipod add on?

Seperate as most of the ipod ones i have seen are not that good.

You do have a third options is an mp3 that is low cost and can record audio with high quality.

Yeah standalone is better. I think Olympus makes mac-compatible digital audio recorders.
