I want to use my iPhone to record room conversation, but as you can guess the built in mic is not all that great for area recordings.

What do you recommend?
Small so portable.

What software? Is the iPhone recorder just fine, or have any limitations I should be aware of?

Yeah. You have to look and see which one will work with your iPhone. Some connect to a USB port like on the iPhone 4s. Some you can use a USB cable. You have to look at the ones that have a USB cable connection.

The link that I posted, you can call them or email them. Sweetwater is good with answering any questions that you might have before you buy. And after you purchase, you can contact them if you need help with connections.
