I have an android phone but my wife has an iphone. Our provider is AT&T. Is there an extra charge that we don't know about to Voice Text because that's how my wife always Texts.

No. There's no charge for it. It just uses your microphone plus its own built-in voice recognition to understand what she's saying, and then it sends as a normal text message. If you are getting any extra charges than normal for any reason from AT&T then you should view your bill/contact them.
