Voicemail greeting on iphone will not save

On my iphone 3g i have visual voicemail. when i go into it and want to record a custom greeting, it allows me to do that and i am also able to playback my recording. But when i press save and error message pops up saying the greeting cannot be saved.

does anyone have any idea why this is so
