Is it possible to enable VoLTE on an iPhone 5s with the Carrier Update Hack? I think someone managed to do it a few months ago (see here and here). I’m not sure how you’d do it, though.

By default, the “Voice & Data” option doesn’t appear in Settings → Cellular, and officially Verizon only supports VoLTE on the 6 and 6 Plus, not the 5s or older models.

The iPhone 5s’s baseband processor (Qualcomm MDM9x15) fully supports VoLTE, so this shouldn’t be a matter of hardware restrictions, right?

The specific baseband chip on the 5S might have the capabilities but if that is disabled by the phone manufacturer and not supported by the carrier then I don't think a hack will do it.

With the 'Carrier Update Hack' from iTweakiOS, VoLTE can be enabled on a 5s with T-Mobile, AT&T, and (I think) Sprint. This capability disappeared for Verizon iPhone 5s and older when Verizon announced recently that their VoLTE support (Advanced Calling 1.0, HD Voice, whatever they call it) would be restricted to the 6 and 6 Plus.

So I think that, in practice, the device itself supports VoLTE, but if you have Verizon the 'on-switch' for this feature is turned off by default, as per their new policy. The question is, is it able to be turned on, and if so, how?

I don't know if this would work, but I would suggest borrowing a friends 6 or 6+, putting it on your line temporarily. Add the HD voice feature. Make sure it enables on the line, and then add the 5S back to the line. Again, no idea if that even would work or not but worth a shot.

I doubt its enabled on Sprint.
For GSM devices maybe.
Either way I stay away from carrier hacks like that.
Not something I want to mess with.
