iPod Volume bar disappeared?

OK, I don't know what I did, but on my Nano, the volume bar disappeared. I can still raise/lower the volume, but now it shows a line of 5 blue dots instead of the volume bar. How do I change it back?

Whenever the ratings show on my mini I can only press the middle button once or twice to get the usual progress bar back... But once the rating shows I cannot change the sound, just the rating, of course...

Have you tried resetting it...?

happened to me too with my nano ... I reset it ( hold down middle and menue buttons ) and everything returned to normal ( you will not lose your songs ).

I had that problem with my ipod 5G the first night I had it. Pressing the center button did nothing to bring it back.
It got stuck on the ratings screen. I re-sync'ed it with my computer and it worked again.
