Hi,

My volume up button is depressed more than my volume down button by less than a fraction of a mm. My fingers can tell. I would assume normal tolerance.

Should I return?

Mostly joking about returning it. It’s a fantastic device. 😁

I guess I’m wondering if anyone ever notices little things like this with new phones on the pros, or if I’m just being super OCD.

Annnd a little paranoid my case depressed the volume buttons

Actually, I'm pretty sure most people would consider a fraction of a mm within acceptable tolerances, especially when it makes no functional difference.

Only you can answer this question. I personally wouldn't bother over something so trivial, but it's your phone, not mine.

Yes, return it. It's a $1k+ device, your muscle memory WILL find it irritating... at least I have in the past. The only "acceptable tolerance" is what you, the customer, thinks it should be. If your fingers can feel it then it's out of spec and needs an exchange.

Before you return it, why don’t you just work the two buttons by pressing them a few hundred times. If they even out you are golden.

If you like the screen....and everything else works...why risk it for a 'real ' defect? And, if you put it in a case do you still notice it? Also , some cases (like the MYBAT that I use) have 'press buttons' that cover/take over the actual buttons.

Yeah everything is perfect. Love this phone.

I definitely think this calls for purchasing a set of calipers to document this. Volume-button-gate!

Seriously, though, if you had calipers you could determine if it’s just something you’re feeling or if it’s actually different.

I dint notice anything when in a case.

But I like to take out of case very often in “safe” environments to appreciate the design and tactile experience of the phone. (E.g. office, home, short trips out… mostly only use case when doing any outdoor activity).

$5 case from Below 5 ain’t bad. Very clean. Electric blue. Looks a lot like the 5c blue. I’ll have to take a picture later of it.

While that is a solid suggestion that won’t at ALL feed the OCD disease tendencies (lol), it’s possible to see the minor difference between the buttons.

They are both clicky and only problematic in the sense that it feels different between the two on travel on depression.

I wouldn’t dream of returning because of return lottery. Learned my lesson back with 5s: I had “the rattle” and only later learned after two returns for s*** screens that the rattle was just a design flaw from the power button that would rattle back and forth in case when shook. (Every 5s I had did it except for one, and I would have GLADLY taken the rattle over the the bad screens)
