on my iphone 4, the volume buttons all of a sudden stopped turning up or down the volume. This is also bad because I cant do bitesms quick reply. Im sure that this is a software issue but does anyone know what the problem is or what cydia app/theme/etc would have caused this?

nope, all i have is volume booster 4.0, which Ive had long before this issue. Would themes be a problem even if they arent being used?
I found the problem. It seems to either be the itunes 10 icon theme for itunes.app, an unapplied fallout 3 theme, or YourTube 2 (most likely this one).
Same here, some people are reporting some strange bugs with it though.
I wonder if its a combination of other stuff installed that conflict with yourtube.
