How does the volume controls reflect to external devices ? Eg aTV, Remote speakers etc...

Is all controls via iTunes, and external equipment, limited to the max volume on the Mac? If so, is there anyway you can control then separately?

Eg keep Mac volume playback to itself including application running or controlled from.

I will give just one take on this from the quality point of view: If you stream a digital music file to the an airport express for example and you use an optic Tos link to a DAC then to retain quality the output of Itunes must be set to MAX, then the volume is then controlled by analogue means after the DAC. Depending on hardware factors such as overload distortion my take precedence over other issues in other configurations. By experimenting it does not take many days to find out what works best for your situation. When music grinds you down instead of being a pleasure then you have the wrong configuration.;)
