I have a little problem in my hands. I was working in the library last night, and I took a break to check my emails, the forums, etc. I clicked on a link in a forum that i thought was an article. It wasn't, It was a youtube link. Not a problem. The problem was that the system volume was turned all the way down and the video still played at full volume. This lead to several disapproving stares and a warning from the librarian. Why did it play? Shouldn't it just have been muted?

Well if it was a laptop you could have just closed the lid :)

Well, yes. But it still made a ton of noise. I want the computer to make no noise when I turn the system volume all the way down. Is there a way to make that happen?

I'm not sure how this could happen, as System Volume trumps any other volume. If the computer was muted, there should have been no sound.

My macbook does this. I have to hit mute twice after I wake it up for the setting to "stick"

annoying.

I have had the opposite problem - I'll be playing video, and audio will disappear. I'll plug a headphone into the jack, and sound comes back. I've only noticed this in recent OS updates.

volume

a few years ago there was a audio clip being emailed around that (in windows enviroment that is) that played at full blast "Hey Everybody I'm Watching Porno Over Here!" it got me.. so I in turn had to send it on to friends...one owned a body shop and played it with cusomers in the office... he about pissed himself...
