I have a Mac OS X 10.5.8--the volume icon continually pops up on the desktop with an annoying 'pop' noise. It also causes the volume go up and down making it impossible to use any audio devises on the computer...no music, video. Anyone out there able to help???

Sounds like the volume button on your keyboard is malfunctioning. Try a different keyboard.

Another thought, do you have a bluetooth keyboard paired to your Mac that you're not actively using? Is it turned on somewhere with maybe something sitting on top of it? I've had "possessed" computers where this was the case. Bluetooth range is broader than you think.

Thanks for your input, I appreciate it. I tested the volume on the keyboard and it seems to be working fine, the 'F' keys are doing what they're suppose to be doing. As to the bluetooth...I have NO idea what a bluetooth is or what it does. Yes, this tells you how completely new to all this I am! Thanks again...crying seems to help!

Another possibility is an Apple Remote or other infrared device.

Which Mac do you have? How is the keyboard connected?

Do you see an icon that looks like

In your menu bar?
