Ok I know this may be a stupid question, but I am a new Mac user here so give me a break lol. How do I assign the F11(decrease volume) and F12(increase volume) to do just that, increase and decrease volume. I went into System Preferences and went under the keyboard section, but I didn't see anything that let me use the buttons for volume. It worked the other day, but not it seems I cannot increase/decrease volume. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Are you using a newer notebook with the revised media keyboard, or are you on an iBook or something?

For the newer systems, it should be: System Prefs > Keyboard > uncheck "Use all F1 etc keys as standard function keys."

Just a side note, whether you choose to use them as standard function keys or not, if you hold down the "fn" key while pressing them, it will trigger the alternate function.
