volume issue help plz

The volume seems to be on lock and no sound comes out of the computer speakers

If i go to the volume sign at the top of the page the volume meter is white and stuck at the top.

if i press F5 and F4 it moves neither up nor down and underneath the volume bar there is a circle with a line in it, which i presume is mute

i have gone into system pref -sound -out put and thats stuck too

also there is a red light on in the headphone socket

any ideas ?

Digital out is "stuck" on. Search around the boards it's been discussed here.

What is selected in the Output tab of the Sound Preferences?

The red light on the headphone out means, that the optical and digital output is enabled.

Maybe you have to select another output.

Ah, I just saw, that when something is inserted in the line out/headphone jack of a Mac, the Output options can be changed. But if nothing is plugged in there, one can only "choose" Internal Speakers as an output.


Have you had anything plugged recently in the line out/headphone jack?

Do you still have warranty? And what Mac and Mac OS X version do you have?

Hi guys

figured it out put headphones in and out of socket for 5 times the red light went out and it went back to normal.

I must have takes the headphones out originally to quickly or something.
