Volume overlay gone in 7.1

One thing I disliked in iOS 7 was the frosted glass volume overlay when adjusting volume while playing video.

While this is gone in 7.1, I'm not sure I like the new way better as now instead of the video being covered up in the middle of the screen, it's the tops and bottoms that are covered...

What do you guys think?

Still the old way in youtube....

I definitely prefer the new way though - much better

I still see the volume window in all my apps when adjusting the volume. Agree with you that it blocks the screen for too long. Instead 2 seconds, they should either make it fade quicker or give users the option to adjust that setting.

If you open the stock video app, it's no longer an overlay in the middle of the screen. Instead you get the seek and volume sliders to appear at the top and bottom.

It seems like that seems nicer (and would be nice if it was in more places like that).

It's always been like that in the videos app. You can tap the screen to make the controls appear/disappear. However, if you use the physical buttons on the side of the device, the middle of the screen volume control pop-up still exists.

Not with me. With 7.1, The physical volume up/down buttons now do the same thing as if I tap the screen. The scrub/volume bars appear, no overlay in the middle. Try it and confirm.

I was mistaken. Just tried on a device still on 7.0.4, using the physical buttons in the music app does not bring up the overly. So it seems the behavior was already like that, and not new in 7.1

Always been like this in iOS7 and takes up way too much real estate. Either make the bars much more transparent, or make them much smaller.
