Volume problem exporting from garage band to itunes

I am doing a spoken word recording from garage band to itunes, but when I open and play the recording on itunes it is much louder than it was in garage band. Is there a way to control this.

I have tried different recording levels with the track volume slider in the upper left corner of garage band, and also with the recording level in the bottom right corner, but it always comes out with a too high volume in itunes.

Any suggestions are welcome.
