It appears that Mac OS does not handle auto reconnect. Maybe the following will help. Use the VPN client from your VPN provider or get OpenVPN configuration files and use them with https://tunnelblick.net The native VPN on macOS is a joke, there are almost no options to configure and the server can ignore them anyway.
