VPN: Slow Internet Connection while on VPN

Hi,
I have configured my VPN (PPTP)... everything works
I did not checked "send all traffic over VPN connection".

Still, when VPN is active, the speed drop is huge. I get timeouts and when lucky the page loads very slow.

Any clue?

I did: netstat -r -n -f inet
yet Netif of default is set to en1

who hosts the server, where do they host it, where are you connecting from, what is your bandwidth, what is their bandwidth, yada yada yada yada

need WAY more details.

Since I have not checked to "send all traffic over VPN connection", I would have expected the place where the VPN is hosted to have NO incidence for my internet traffic.

Where am I wrong?
