VPN takes over all connections?

I use a VPN to get into the network when I'm working from home. The problem is that it takes over all IP connections, so things like Safari stop working. I'm sure there's a way to limit the VPN to route only certain IP ranges, but if there is, I can't figure it out.

Anyone done this before?
