macOS VScode download problem

I downloaded the VScode editor after hearing about it on this forum and it looks really good and a real competitor to Atom and Sublime Text.

However, Safari insists on downloading VScode-darwin-stable.zip at least 10 times a day and I can't figure out how to stop it - I am half suspecting that the whole thing is some kind of malware!

Anyone else experienced this?

Not interested in the program as such, but always interested in the tricks of malware. It helps me keep up with traps the relatives fall into.
