I got replacements for our 2 iPhone5s, and got a new iPhone6 and a 6 Plus last week. I had also registered both phones in the Trade-In program (not at the same time) and had gotten the return package materials for one, but not the other. So, I read up on this and found out that I could just go to a VZW store and trade them in there instead of waiting for the other packaging to get here and then wait 6 weeks or so to get the actual payment.
I got to the store and had to wait in line for almost a half hour before I could talk with a saleperson. After I explained my situation, she said, oh, you can trade your phones in here, but you have to cancel your registrations with the trade-in program that you did online first. I said, no, I don't have to do that, from what your website said and every other site on the internet says. And she said, oh yes you do. So sorry. (OK, the discussion was not exactly like that...) So I tried calling the support line for the Trade-In program, and of course they were all too busy to talk with me, and said I could call back later, and GOOD BYE.
I went out into the parking lot and tried calling them again, and after 20 minutes or so, I got through. I asked the lady there if it was true that I had to cancel out my the trade-in registration I did online before I could trade my phones in at the store, and she said "NO". Like, what a stupid question. But she said, don't worry, I can do it for you anyway if you want, and she did.
I went back into the store, and had to get in line again. I was now 65th in line, and the wait was an hour and a half. I managed to get the store manager's attention, and told him that what I was told in the store was incorrect, blah blah, and asked if I really had to wait in line all over again just to trade the phones in. And he was nice and got me a sales person (THE SAME ONE) and after speaking with her, she did the trade ins and I got out of there.
The point is that IF YOU MAKE AN ONLINE REGISTRATION WITH THE TRADE IN PROGRAM, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO CANCEL THAT IN ORDER TO DO THE TRADE IN AT THE VZW STORE INSTEAD. Don't let the sales people BS you about it. They are wrong if they do.
I like VZW because they have the best call coverage, but over the years, I've learned the hard way that they have ROTTEN customer service. I got my 6 Plus at an Apple store, and man, were they WORLDS better. Never will I go to a VZW store again.
