VZW upgrade @ Apple store, need old SIM?

So if you are upgrading from 5 to 5S at an Apple store do you have to have the 5 & its SIM or can they just use the SIM the 5S shipped with for activation? Husband is @ Apple store hoping to upgrade both of our phones this morning, i really hope I don't have to meet him there to get my phone done too...
