I've decided that I'll be getting an i5 27" iMac, and that it'll suit my needs perfectly. I've been planning on just picking up a refurbished i5 when they show up, but I've been waiting for a long time and they still haven't popped up yet, although the core 2 duo 27" imacs just started showing up in the apple refurb store again last week.

I am able to get the student discount, so the difference in price for me is $200 between refurb and new. I am a little hesitant with refurb 27"s too, since it seems to be the most problematic piece of hardware apple has released in years, and buying a refurb is almost a guarantee that the machine did initially have some problems. Is it worth waiting and risking for $200? Or will I be satisfied enough with my new 27 (assuming I get a "good" one) that I won't regret paying the extra $200 to finally just order one
