Based on Apple Press info, quoted below, you can either wait in line or sit at home on 9/19 at 8:00AM and order to be picked up the same day.

two questions for this:

1) if you can order online and pick up on the same day, why do people need to drive and wait in line?

2) how does apple store manage both online order and physical card handout? it is impossible to sync up the inventory from two channels (online and card handout). or the store have two separate allocated stocks: one for online order and one for people waiting inline at the store.

"...Additional supply of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be available to walk-in customers on Friday, September 19 at 8:00 a.m. local time at Apple retail stores. Customers are encouraged to arrive early or order online from the Apple Online Store (www.apple.com) to pickup in-store or receive an estimated delivery date..."

Two lines, one for #1 and one for #2 above. Just like when you go to the mall and have to use the restroom. Line 1 for #1, Line 2 for #2 (the stall)

hehe

OP is suggesting that purchases from the in-person store stock will be possible via the internet. Interesting thought however I believe you are misinterpreting the press release and that the paragraph is really answering the original general question of 'how do I purchase an iphone 6?'

If you want to wait for an iPhone on launch day you should already be camping in line right now.

Last year they did that where you could see the stock the night before at 10pm for a couple days, but they quickly disabled that until stock levels normalized. Probably the same since now it says "visit store sept 19"

I know a person who did order online and pick up locally on the launch date, either iphone 5 or 5s, without waiting inline.
