if you want an iPad I say get one now no point in waiting for a new refresh.
As for the macbook depends what you want a macbook pro or macbook air supposedly they are making a 12" mba but I have no idea when they will release it some say 2015

As far as the iPad is concerned, hang tight until Oct 21 when there is a rumored event. There are no further expected upgrades to the MBA or MBP lines this fall, but since you're not in a hurry, why not wait a couple of weeks.
