Wait to buy?

I want to upgrade girlfriends macbook 1.83 soon. Are the new Macs based on the newer Intel chip coming out soon? Should I wait for those, or get a macbook pro?

We will find out at MacWorld on the 15th whats happening, but its likely the Macbooks will stay the same and the Macbook Pros will get faster, and possibly they will have a case redesign

It's way too close to the MWSF to really buy anything from Apple. It's better to wait and hear the news and then buy based on the new information. If nothing else, Jan 15th will help everyone with a decent roadmap of the direction of all apple products.

That varies. Stevie J has been known to announce products that ship the day of the keynote, and some not until February (or like iPhone, June).

What about, say, a MacBook update? Were they at the Apple store the day of the update last time they got a hardware bump?

Just wait and see. After the 15th there should be some good deasl on the marketplace for people trying to sell and upgrade to new products.
