So apple released new 14 & 16 form factors. Yay!

But what actually happens to the base 13/14 models with limited ports and limited graphic power?

Is Apple not going to upgrade the MBP 13 that released last year?

So much confusion about the M1 series upgrade cycles now.

Some clarity would be appreciated.

What's the confusion? The 13" MBP is akin to the 2012 MBP that stuck around til like 2017. It'll be the 'cheap' MBP that won't receive upgrades until Apple runs of out Touch Bar panels and axes it.

I think it's too early to call it the Classic Macbook.

Anyway my point was that if Apple is going to release a new base Macbook Pro. Considering its really lacking a lot of Pro features now, lets call it Semi Pro. I hope we don't have to wait another year to get the new 14 in form factor.

that base is the M1 13" MBP with just 2 ports and slower graphic power

the old "pro" is essentially the MacBook now. Seeing as they are following the naming convention of the phones im assuming they will follow the lineup as well.

iphone 13 / macbook (gen 1 m1 mbp)
iphone 13 mini / macbook air
iphone 13 pro / m1 pro
iphone 13 pro max / m1 max

It's a Pro model compared to the MacBook Air (more USB ports, Touch Bar, better screen, better cooling, etc.)

If you want a cheaper 14", you're going to be waiting a few years. If you want an updated 13" Pro, you're out of luck.

These non streamlined upgrades were the reason we all hated Intel, but looks like they will continue for some time.
I hope next year fall event has the base model upgraded with 14 in design and M2 non pro chipset along with the Pro and Max devices.

It's hard to say. I'm not all that convinced that Apple will even bother with a 'cheap' 14 inch Pro. Mini-LED 120 hz displays aren't cheap, and Apple LOVES their margins. It's very possible that Apple will just spec bump the Air next year and keep the 13" around until it's long in the tooth, but I hope I'm wrong.

$999 MBA 13
$1,999 MBP 14

The gap is way too big for Apple to delete MBP 13. And there's no way to cut features to reach $1,299. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple overhauled the MBP 13 to keep it in the lineup.

I agree about the gap. Perhaps, when they redesign the Air next year, they will redesign the 13" MacBook, too and give it a place between the MBA and the MBP.

My guess is it gets either :
a) quietly updated in 1-2 months - no touchbar, 2 USB-C + Magsafe and HDMI (no SD card) - M1 & M1 Pro up to 32gb)
b) gets killed with an Air refresh in the spring that has a couple of combos to give an entry model/screen and a bumped model with more ports

I think it will most likely be updated to the new design and same specs, sometime before college season in 2022.
Macbook Pro base is the preferred choice for a lot of prosumers.
