Waiting to Purchase Nehalem + Intel QuickPath Interconnect?

In the next 12-18 months Intel will be launching the QuickPath Interconnect to replace the Front Side Bus alongside the Nehalem. I am trying to plan a medium and longer term strategy for purchasing a series of Macs based on future technology.

Could someone please explain what type of improvements are likely expected when QuickPath Interconnect is implemented. Thanks.
